Making Your Training More Effective

Building Muscle With Better Training

When you're trying to build muscle, it's easy to get caught up in how much weight you're lifting.

More weight can mean more progress, but only if you're still performing the exercise properly. If adding weight means using momentum, cutting your range of motion short or losing control of the movement, you may be making the exercise less effective rather than more effective.

The goal isn't simply to move a heavy weight from A to B. You want the target muscle doing as much of the work as possible.

Control the weight

No need to make every repetition extremely slow, but you should be able to control the weight throughout the movement.

Pay attention to the lowering portion of the repetition and avoid letting the weight drop or swing. Good control can make a big difference in how an exercise feels and how effectively you can train the muscle.

Don't sacrifice your form for more weight

If you have to swing a dumbbell or completely change your technique to get the weight moving, it might be time to reduce the load.

There is nothing wrong with using less weight if it allows you to perform better repetitions.

Over time, your goal should be to become stronger without letting your technique fall apart.

Focus on the muscle, not just the numbers

It's easy to finish a workout thinking about how much weight you lifted.

Instead, pay attention to whether you actually trained the muscle you intended to train.

Keep your movements controlled, use a sensible range of motion and take your working sets seriously. As your technique and strength improve, you can gradually increase the weight.

Building muscle isn't about lifting the heaviest weight possible every time you walk into the gym.

It's all about consistently giving the muscle a reason to adapt and getting better at your training over time.

My honest advice is , don't just move the weight. Make the weight work for you.
